Performance Repertoire

In 2026, Yi-bing Chu decided to hold several important concerts to celebrate his sixtieth birthday. On his birthday, February 24, he performed at Zipper Hall in the Colburn School in Los Angeles, and then traveled to the East Coast to play at Faneuil Hall in Boston on February 28 at 3 PM. This birthday concert was a tribute to his biological parents and also a homage to his lifelong spiritual mentor, the greatest cellist of the twentieth century in France, Mr. Maurice Gendron.

An Outstanding Genius Cellist

Yi-Bing Chu, an international cellist and educator, won an award at the Geneva International Cello Competition in 1986, becoming the first person from the Chinese cello community to win a major international competition. He has taught at the Paris Conservatoire, being the first Asian professor in its 230-year history.

Born in Beijing in 1966, he began studying the cello with his father, Professor Zhu Yongning, at the age of eight. At thirteen, he released his first solo album published by the China Record Company. By the age of seventeen, he was admitted to the Paris Conservatoire, where he became a disciple of the renowned French master Jean Delecluse, graduating with top honors.

Yi-Bing Chu served as the principal cellist of the Basel Symphony Orchestra in Switzerland for fifteen years, and he also held a guest principal cellist position with the prestigious Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Germany, as well as being a member of the Cologne Philharmonic Cello Ensemble.

He pursued conducting studies at the Basel School of Music and has conducted symphony orchestras in Munich, Halle, Düsseldorf, Berlin, Zurich, and Prague.
